Subaru Powered Lancair 320

This is Ridge Dickey's Lancair 320 from Fort Worth, Texas. It is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled Subaru EJ22 and is fitted with an SDS EM-2F EMS. Injectors are Bosch 480cc/min. Turbo is a Garrett TO3 with -50 compressor and stage 3, .63 turbine section. Max takeoff power will be in the 225-240 hp range at 50 inches and 5600rpm.

This aircraft will be used extensively for long distance racing with the turbo system being optimised for high altitude use. Max continuous cruise is 4500rpm/45 inches/200hp. High altitude cruise to 23,000 feet is projected to be 4500 rpm/36 inches/160 hp. Top speed should approach 300 mph at altitude.

08/15/03 Update and First Flight

With an RV8 chase plane along for the first flight, Ridge reports that the aircraft is exceeding original expectations. Initial tests show 160 knots at 3300 feet using only 3700 rpm and 39 inches (about 120-130hp).

Ridge has resumed test flying and sends some more data and photos.

Best run so far at 12,500 feet running 4500 rpm and 45 inches netted 200 knots TAS on 12.18 gals/hr. TIT was 1460F.
